Freezer facility Biomedicum

In each laboratory quarter, there are niches designed for connecting low-temperature freezers (-80°C), with connections to backup power and the central temperature alarm system. In addition, there are five rooms for low-temperature freezers (-80°C, -150°C) and two rooms for isothermal equipment on Floor 2, all connected to backup power and the central alarm system.

The isothermal units (cryotanks) are a shared facility and are managed by FM (Facility Management). To gain access to the rooms with isothermal units, a nitrogen safety course must be completed.

FM is responsible for freezer alarm duty for all freezers connected to the central temperature alarm system, 24/7.

FM also manages the evacuation freezers, which are used in case of malfunction of the low-temperature freezers, and these freezers are a shared resource. The evacuation freezers can also be used for defrosting low-temperature freezers, but only after contacting FM.

For information on the nitrogen safety course and storage in the freezer facility, please contact  FM Helpdesk or the person responsible for the freezer facility.

All low-temperature freezers at KI must have a PT100 sensor to record the temperature externally. Therefore, all new freezers and freezers that have been defrosted must have a PT100 sensor installed in order to be placed in the freezer facility.
