Qualifications portfolio via KI RIMS: Research

On this page, you will find instructions on how to use KI RIMS to fill in your research portfolio. Under each heading, you will find information about what information is retrieved from KI RIMS and where you can change it. Please note that only the headings that can be filled in using KI RIMS are listed here. You will need to fill in the content under the other headings manually after you have generatred the qualifications portfolio report from KI RIMS.

2. Scientific awards and prizes

Listed here are Professional activities of the type Award / prize if Award type = Scientific award.

3. Scientific peer-reviewed publications in international journals

For all sections 3.1–3.5, you should, if possible, verify your publications in the bibliometric database. Publications that have not been verified in the bibliometric database need to be supplemented manually in KI RIMS with information about Peer reviewed, Sub type (applies to publication types Conference publications and Journal articles) and Author type (if it is relevant to specify who the first and last authors are).

If a publication is not listed under the correct heading, you may need to go to its record in KI RIMS and change the Publication type or change/add a Sub type to ensure that it will be listed correctly in the qualifications portfolio. Instructions on how to do this can be found on the page Publication types in KI RIMS.

Name variant

If your author name is not in bold, it is because the system does not recognise that name variant. If you suspect that this name variant may also be used in future publications, you should add it as a namestring inthe bibliometric system. Alternatively, you can add it to KI RIMS under the heading Search settings under Profile & work.

Author position (Author type)

In order for a publication to be counted in the Number of original articles as first/last author, the system must recognise the name variant as yours (= your name must be in bold on the reference in Appendix 1) and there must be information about Author type on the record in KI RIMS. The same applies to the asterisk that indicates shared first/last authorship. Author type should appear automatically if you have verified the publication in the bibliometric system, but you can also add Author type manually if, for example, there is more than one author who should be listed as first author or if it is a publication that cannot be verified in the bibliometric system.

How to add or change an Author type for an author:

  • Open the publication record in KI RIMS
  • Click on the plus symbol (Add manual record) at the bottom right
  • Click on the edit link next to the author's name
  • Select an author type
  • Click on the Add selected author type link
  • Click on Save below the author information
  • If it is a KI author, you need to confirm that it is the correct person and click Yes
  • Finish by clicking on Save at the bottom of the page.

How to see which author types there are on a publication record

  • Open the publication record in KI RIMS
  • Click on Manual or KI Bibliometrics to expand the information (since information about author types can only be found in the manual record or the KI Bibliometrics record)
  • Click on see details under the author names. 

If you are applying for docent, you must also follow the Instructions for Appointment of Docents at Karolinska Institutet, which state:

  • Section 3.3 All original articles must be included in the qualification portfolio and not as an appendix. Also indicate the H-index and total number of citations according to Web of Science and Google Scholar.
  • In the publication list, original works where the applicant is first or last author, completed after doctoral education and without any doctoral supervisor as co-author, must be specifically marked with #.
  • Publications included in the doctoral thesis must be specifically marked with §.
  • Section 3.5 All other publications must be included in the qualifications portfolio and not as an appendix

In the H-index and citations report, you can see your h-index and your total number of citations according to Web of Science based on the peer-reviewed original articles listed under heading 3.3 List of original articles in the qualifications portfolio report.

b) Number of original articles as first author

Counted here are Publications that are listed in section 3.3 All original articles (=Appendix 1) if the user's Author type = First author.

c) Number of original articles as last author

Counted here are Publications that are listed in section 3.3 All original articles (=Appendix 1) if the user's Author type = Last author.

3.2 Ten selected original articles

Listed here are the original articles you have marked as a favourite in KI RIMS.

Information on impact factor and number of citations is automatically added to each reference based on metadata from Web of Science.

3.3 All original articles

Listed in Appendix 1 are Publications that are marked as Peer reviewed and have one of the following sets of Publication type and Sub type:

  • Publication type Journal article and Sub type Article
  • Publication type Conference publication and Sub type Published paper

3.4 Number of other publications

Counted here are Publications that are listed in section 3.5 All other publications (=Appendix 2).

Listed under this subheading in Appendix 2 are Publications that are marked as Peer reviewed and have Publication type Book chapter.

Listed under this subheading in Appendix 2 are Publications that are marked as Peer reviewed and have Publication type Journal article and one of the following Sub types:

  • Letter
  • Editorial
  • Comment
