Recruitment regulations and legislation
Presented here is an overview of the legislation and regulations that apply for recruitment at Karolinska Institutet as a university and state authority.
Higher education legislation
The Swedish Higher Education Act contains general regulations for universities and university colleges. Chapter 3 of the Act contains regulations for the appointment of professors, adjunct professors, visiting professors and senior lecturers. The regulations in the Higher Education Act are supplemented by the regulations in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance which regulate matters linked to joint positions, qualifications and basis of assessment for appointment, and certain matters linked to the appointment process.
Appointments procedure
The appointments procedure came into force on February 2nd 2022 and applies until further notice. The appointments procedure and the instructions incorporate all the regulations that apply for the appointment of teaching staff.
As of November 1, 2024 new Instructions for the Appointment Procedure for Teachers will apply.

Experts
Karolinska Institutet has established the fee levels for experts in conjunction with the appointment of teaching staff and researchers, such as senior lecturers, professors and postdoctoral research fellows. The fee for the examination of a docent appointment has also been established. No extra remuneration is paid to KI employees who serve as experts.
