Two-step verification/MFA

Multi-factor authentication, also known as two-step verification, means logging in using two steps: your E-mail and password, and a code or authorization via an app on your phone. Two-step verification is mandatory for all employees at KI.

Enable two-step verification for your KI account

To enable two-step verification, you need a mobile phone that can install apps from the App Store or Google Play.

If you have already activated the Microsoft Authenticator app and verified your sign-in via the app, you don't need to do anything.

How to reset the Microsoft Authenticator app

If you have lost your mobile phone on which Microsoft Authenticator was activated or if you need to restore the app for some other reason, you can do this yourself by logging in to the ID portal with e-identification, to get a temporary access pass.

If you do not have any e-identification, you will need to contact the IDAC administrator at your department.

You will then receive an 8-digit code and can follow the guide for reset below.

Two-step verification/MFA for external users

When a KI employee shares files/data with an external user, the external user needs to log in with two-step verification to access the file.

Note! This guide is only for users without a KI-email or KI student email.

Why is two-step verification mandatory at KI?

  • It is a requirement from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency
  • The introduction of two-step verification is a measure to increase the security of your KI account and to prevent your account from being hijacked.
  • Two-step verification protects your user identity at KI (prevents ID hijacking) and increases security when you log in with your KI account to KI's various IT services and systems.
  • The function is used to confirm that it is you who logs in to KI's IT services such as Outlook, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive. The introduction of two-step verification only affects employees at KI and not students.
