ANA Futura dishwashing unit
In ANA Futura we have our own in-house system for washing and sterilisation which will provide a basic service that is available to all researchers in ANA Futura.
The unit operates Monday-Friday between 07.00-15:00.
List of approved autoclavable buffers & substrates
Buffer/Substrate | Abbreviation |
---|---|
Deionised water – type I | MiliQ / ddH2O |
Phosphate buffered saline | PBS |
Tris-buffered saline | TBS |
Agarose | |
Glycerol | |
LB med/broth | LB |
Tween | T |
The services are paid for by all four departments, but will be free of direct charge (i.e. researchers/groups will not be invoiced individually when utilising the services).
The unit will primarily offer the following services:
- Regular collection, inactivation, washing of unclean goods (infectious & non-infectious, only applicable to BSL1/BSL2) , and redistribution to glassware storage rooms.
- Sterilisation (autoclaving) of consumables (e.g. pipette tips, tubes).
- Sterilisation of solutions (e.g. PBS, agar). (A list of commonly occurring autoclavable substrates will be posted at every glassware storage room).
- Maintaining a stock of sterilised deionised water (clean water, type I).
We currently cannot provide a definitive lead time as we have not yet started operating at full capacity, but with standard workload the current estimate is around three days.
Please note that the following services are NOT provided:
- Preparation of buffers such as PBS. These will still have to be either prepared by the researchers, or purchased from the hospital.
- Inactivation of infectious waste (e.g. cell culture media).
How the dishwashing service works
The system is designed to utilise the recycling stations and clean glassware storage rooms as pickup/delivery points for unclean and clean goods, respectively.
