Equity Focus Group
Vision
The aim of the Equity Focus Group is to improve and highlight unequal situations for all individuals in academia at Karolinska Institutet.
Goals
Our goals will be achieved by striving for greater transparency in academia, highlighting scientific role models from all avenues of science, pursuing a mentorship program for junior and established researchers, encouraging the employment of a qualified equality researcher, and educating and informing researchers and research leaders on discrimination, issues and solutions.
Ongoing/planned activities
- Equality integration of other JF Focus groups
- Seminar series focused on issues of inequity in academia
- Active bystander training
- Analyses of survey and salary data to highlight areas of inequality
Previous events
The Equity Focus Group, represented by coordinator Alexandra Wennberg, was honored to be a panel member at the National Equal Opportunity Conference (Nationella likavillkorskonferensen för universitet och högskolor) at Uppsala University 18-19 November 2025. She participated in the round-table discussion “Breaking the Language Barrier – Enhancing Sweden's Standing as an Internationally Attractive Research Nation”, organized by the equal opportunity group at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UU. We regard it a privilege to be part of these important national conversations!
