How you can help reduce the climate impact of business travel
Business travel accounts for a significant share of KI’s total climate impact. Emissions from travel need to be reduced in order for KI to achieve the goals set out in the Climate strategy 2030.
According to KI’s travel guidelines, trains should be chosen to a greater extent, including for international journeys. Below you will find tips on how to travel more sustainably.

Things to consider before booking a trip
- Consider whether the trip is necessary. Could you meet digitally instead?
According to KI’s travel guidelines, digital meetings should replace business travel wherever possible. - Coordinate representation from KI and review the number of staff travelling on business. For example, a colleague who is already planning to travel to the same destination may be able to represent KI at multiple meetings.
Sustainable alternatives for business travel
- Choose rail instead of air travel wherever possible.
Emissions from KI’s flights accounted for approximately 98% of the total emissions from business travel and other transport in 2025. - According to KI’s travel guidelines, journeys under 500 km are considered shorter trips where rail is a viable alternative to flying.
If it is not possible to travel entirely by train, you can often combine rail with other modes of transport. - If you do need to fly, choose direct flights. Aircraft consume the most fuel during take-off and ascent, and routes with stopovers often result in longer distances flown.
- Use local public transport at your destination instead of travelling by car.
Travel within Stockholm and surrounding areas
- Use public transport or KI’s shuttle bus. The shuttle bus operates on renewable fuel.
Reducing emissions from business travel – one of KI’s environmental objectives up to 2027
One of KI’s environmental objectives for 2025–2027 is to ensure a continuous reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from business travel.
