Distribution of government funds 2025
The Consistory decides annually on planning conditions and budget frameworks for the education and research grants that the government allocates to Karolinska Institutet. The decision also includes budget frameworks for the university-wide functions, internal rent level, IT fee and central INDI.
Based on the Consistory's decision, the President decides on the allocation of government appropriations to university dental care, examinations after doctors' general service, assignments to develop clinical education and research, funds for student health, teaching and learning, basic remuneration, comparative medicine, the Internationalisation Board, strategic research areas, ethics activities at KI and the Faculty Board.
The Faculty Board decides on further distribution to committees, councils and other central bodies, which in turn distribute the government grants to departments and units. The Faculty Board also allocates strategic funds directly to the departments.
Budget items can be allocated later in the year following separate decisions.
The President is tasked with making any decisions that may be necessary as a result of what emerges from the appropriation directions and any other government decisions.
Government appropriations must be spent in the same year as they are paid out.
