Swedish elections 2026

You have the right to vote in the elections to the Riksdag if you are at least 18 years old, a Swedish citizen and listed in the Swedish Population Register. You can vote in the elections to the regional and municipal councils even if you don’t have Swedish citizenship, provided that you’re listed in the Swedish Population Register.

You have the right to vote in elections to the regional and municipal councils if:

  • you are at least 18 years old on election day.

You must also be one of the following:

  • a Swedish citizen who is listed in the Swedish Population Register as living in the municipality or region in question
  • a citizen of an EU country, Iceland or Norway who is listed in the Swedish Population Register as living in the municipality or region in question
  • a citizen of a country other than one of those listed above, or a stateless person, who has been listed in the Swedish Population Register for three consecutive years before election day and is listed as living in the municipality or region in question.

You will receive your voting card for the elections by 26 August 2026 at the latest. Your voting card will be sent to your Swedish digital mailbox if you have one. If not, it will be sent to you by post. Read more on English | Swedish election authority
