New doping test can reveal more cheating female athletes
A new doctoral thesis from Karolinska Institutet reveals that current doping tests are less effective for women due to their varying hormone profiles, leading to fewer women being detected for doping compared to men. Jona Elings Knutsson's research, which included studies showing that testosterone enhances women's physical performance, proposes an alternative testing method involving a blood test and a new limit value that accommodates both elite and casual athletes. This approach addresses the shortcomings of current urine tests, which are more suited to male hormone profiles.
