Nordplus: The Nordic and the Baltic Countries

Nordplus is a programme that allows you to explore exchange possibilities in Sweden's neighboring countries. There are opportunities to teach, tutor, develop teaching materials or design a project with a similar focus during your stay.

Teacher exchange within Nordplus

Support for teacher mobility requires an exchange stay covering at least one week (five working days) or a minimum of eight (8) teaching hours. The exchange can include teaching, tutoring, development of teaching materials etc. The grant is allocated according to set rates for travel and accommodation/board, decided upon within each Nordplus network, but the maximum scholarship is 355 Euro per week plus the stipulated travel rate.

You have to be employed at Karolinska Institutet in order to participate in Nordplus teaching mobility. The grant is not to be seen as full compensation for all costs, but rather as an addition to the costs incurred. It is assumed that you receive full salary from your employer during the exchange period.

What is Nordplus?

Nordplus is the Nordic Council of Minister's framework programme for cooperation between the Nordic and Baltic countries. Nordplus shall contribute to strengthening the community and identity by supporting mobility, exchange and networks between the five Nordic countries, the autonomous Greenland, Faroe Islands and Åland Islands, as well as the Baltic countries Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The programme is based on network cooperation between higher education institutions concerned with a specific project. At KI a number of our study programmes at the bachelor and master levels participate in networks within Nordplus, which annually apply for funding to organise activities within these networks.

What applies to study programmes that participate in Nordplus collaborations?

Many study programmes participate in or coordinate collaborations within Nordplus. The responsibility for fundings and coordination lie on departments or programme boards, but the collaboration must be anchored centrally.

For projects/networks coordinated at KI (Nordplus applications and Nordplus reports)

Before the document is sent for signature by the Vice-Rector for Education, the head of department ("prefekt") for the relevant institution must sign, proposing next to the contact person's signature. Except for the study programmes in medicine and biomedicine who has Programme Boards: Programme Committee Chairman/Programme Director signs for respective programme
The document is then sent to the international coordinator at KI who forwards to the Vice-Rector for Education for signing (or to the person the Vice-Rector delegated to).
International coordinator registers the document at the KI diary and sends a copy of signed document to KI's contact person for the network in question.

For projects coordinated by another institution (eg Letter of Intent)

Before the document is sent for signature by the Vice-Rector for Education, the person who, according to the study programme, has a delegation on signing exchange agreements, must ounter-signage, next to the contact person's signature
The document is then sent to the international coordinator at KI who forwards to the Vice-Rector for Education for signing (or to the person the Vice-Rector delegated to).
International coordinator registers the document at the KI diary and sends a copy of signed document to KI's contact person for the network in question.

Activities within Nordplus Higher Education

Student mobility: 1-12 months for studies or placements that have their credits transferred
Express mobility: shorter student mobility of at least one week
Teacher mobility: at least one week or eight teaching hours
Network activities: establishing and developing networks, planning, courses, language courses for students, information activities
Intensive courses: short courses, workshops and conferences with teachers and students from at least three countries
Joint study programmes including mobility of at least one semester
Development projects within higher education: quality assurance, development of curricula and of new teaching forms as well as collaboration with trade and industry
