Innovative collaborations: Insights from a KI-Mayo collaboration grant recipient
Dr. Eike-Benjamin Braune, a Senior Researcher at KI and Research Affiliate at Mayo Clinic's Department of Oncology, shares his experience as the recipient of the KI-Mayo collaboration grant. He highlights professional and personal growth, collaborative research contributions, and memorable moments during his time at Mayo Clinic.

Professional and personal growth
Receiving the KI-Mayo collaborative grant has been transformative, allowing me to gain new experiences and meet collaborators in person, fostering robust connections. Becoming a Research Affiliate at Mayo Clinic also signifies a shared interest in deepening the partnership between KI and Mayo.
Collaborative work and research contributions
At Mayo Clinic, I conducted hands-on laboratory work, including establishing advanced methods such as immunoprecipitation. My in-silico analyses contributed to the design of novel expression vectors for gene synthesis. In collaboration with Dr. Tony D’assoro, I worked on a manuscript and helped guiding a new PhD student on a project.
Future scientific advancements
The partnership between KI and Mayo Clinic is a tremendous opportunity to drive scientific advancements. Mayo's patient centric approach and "can-do" attitude combined with KI's excellent research practices and cutting-edge technology can lead to significant breakthroughs. Both institutions complement each other well.
Memorable moments
Memorable moments include watching an NHL match with Tony D’Assoro, after-work meetings during a power outage, meeting Mayo colleagues in person, visiting Stockholm, Wisconsin, and enjoying a Thanksgiving lunch organized by Dr. Aaron Mansfield. These experiences made me feel extraordinarily welcome and enriched my time at Mayo Clinic.
