Management team development at KI
To meet future demands in research, education and operational development, KI must ensure that managers have the right conditions, tools and competencies to lead in a complex and rapidly changing environment. As part of this effort, targeted leadership team development is being carried out, in collaboration with an external partner, to support sustainable and strategic leadership.
Extent
Management team development is currently ongoing in parallel across various phases and has been implemented in several key groups at KI: the President’s management team, the GVS management team, the deans’ management teams, and the HR office management team. In 2026, work will continue with management teams at departments and divisions within GVS. This collaborative effort ensures that the entire organisation works consistently and systematically to strengthen leadership.
How does it work?
The executive team development program is carried out in collaboration with an external partner, IPF. IPF AB is owned by Uppsala University and specialises in both executive and leadership team development. Key areas covered by the executive team development program include:
- Consensus on the management team’s function, purpose, and responsibilities
- How to create effective management team meetings
- What it means for a management team to have a holistic perspective
- How to create psychological safety within the group
- Joint reflection on how the group functions, results, and the group’s learning
Cost and Responsibility
The central HR office covers the cost of the initiative, including kick-off meetings, impact assessment, four days working with the group, follow-up meetings, etc.
Each manager/Head of the Department covers the cost of the retreat (participants + consultant). If, for example, you wish to schedule additional sessions, this is at your own expense; furthermore, if the consultant is booked for a new initiative, that takes priority.
