Alex and Eva Wallström Foundation for scientific research and education
Alex and Eva Wallström Foundation for scientific research and education hereby invites applications for medical research grants.
Purpose
The foundation’s purpose is to promote scientific research and teaching or education in medicine concerning rheumatological diseases and cancer.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are postdoctoral researchers, i.e., within four years after obtaining their PhD, and affiliated with Karolinska Institutet. This period can be extended by up to 2 years (full-time equivalent) to compensate for parental leave, clinical work, military service, or long-term illness.
Grants for the same project can be awarded a maximum of three times. If you have previously received funds from the Wallström Foundation, a progress report must be attached.
Amount
The available amount in recent years has been 2,000,000 SEK. The granted amounts typically range between 250,000 and 500,000 SEK per person. You can never receive more than the amount applied for.
Application
The application must contain a research plan of maximum 15 000 charachters (approximately 4 A4-pages), an abstract of about 1 A4-page, ethical considerations and a budget where indirect costs must also be stated.
The following attachments should be enclosed:
- A publication list stating the 10 most relevant publications for this call besides a complete publication list for the previous 5 years and the current year
- For applicants who have previously been awarded grants from this call, a progress report must be attched for consideration of the new application.
Note that you should not add co-applicants to this call.
The application must be submitted digitally. The online form will be available through KI Prisma during the application period, January 7 – 21, 2025. The application period opens at 10 am on January 7 and closes 2 pm on January 21.
All applicants are asked to fill in - in the indicated field - who their main supervisor was during their doctoral studies.
Decision
Decision of grant will be taken by the Board of the Foundation. All applicants will be notified by e-mail in April.
Recipients are expected to participate in a scholarship lunch with the foundation’s board on May 23, 2025, at 12:00 at Operaterrassen.
The board kindly requests a popular science presentation of two of the approved projects (one from each subject area).
Reports
For this call we would like have a short scientific report of approximately ½ A4 page and a short financial report, also about ½ A4 page, describing how you used the money. If you have not used the money at all during the disposition period, these should be returned to the Foundation.
Reports are submitted in Prisma approximately 12 months after the money has been paid out. You will receive an email notification when it is time to report.
