Research funding for research on ALS
Funded by a donation from Birgit Backmark, Karolinska Institutet hereby announces a call for research grants for research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The total grant amount in 2026 is SEK 9.5 million.
Purpose
The funding is intended to support research on ALS.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are researchers holding a doctoral degree who are employed by or affiliated with Karolinska Institutet and conduct research within the above-mentioned field. Both projects addressing fundamental biological mechanisms and clinical research projects are welcome.
Funding
A maximum of SEK 2 million per applicant per year may be awarded.
Applicants cannot be awarded more than the amount requested.
Funding may only be applied for one year at a time.
Application
Applications must be prepared in accordance with the instructions provided in the Prisma application portal.
The applicant’s CV is imported from their Prisma profile.
Publication list (to be attached as a PDF):
- A list of the 10 publications most relevant to this call, and
- A complete publication list covering the previous five years and the current year.
Applications must be submitted electronically.
The application form will be available in KI Prisma during the application period:
2026-10-01, 10:00 a.m. – 2026-10-21, 2:00 p.m. (CEST).
Decision
Funding decisions will be made by the Committee for Research and communicated to all applicants by email in January.
Reporting
At the end of the standard grant period, recipients must submit a financial report.
Any remaining funds may continue to be used for the project during the following year.
A final report must be submitted by email to the responsible administrator upon completion of the project. Recipients will receive an email notification when reporting is due.
