Expert Pool: Advanced Technical Support for Research

The Expert Pool is a two-year pilot initiative launched by the Infrastructure Committee to make it easier for researchers to access advanced technical expertise. It also offers an opportunity for staff who wish to contribute specialist knowledge through qualified assignments.

Pilot project in the start-up phase

Funding is provided by the Infrastructure Board, and coordination is managed by the IT Office.

At this early stage, we want to identify colleagues who can contribute as part time experts, while also gathering as many concrete needs from research projects as possible.

Details and routines for internal charging and compensation to departments contributing expertise to the pool are currently being developed.

What can the Expert Pool help with?

The aim is to offer support in moderna and advanced analytical methods and information technologies directly linked to ongoing research. Assignments may involve parttime work for a few weeks ut to roughly a year, in areas such as:

  • AI computation
  • Advanced cloud services
  • Databases and database design
  • Analytical tools
  • Programming and systems development
  • National computing resources

Assignments may include anything from advice and guidance to hands-on implementation such as development work, data analysis or other specialised tasks.

The Expert Pool’s work and the handling of assignments will be coordinated and administered by the IT Office.

How to get help from the Expert Pool

1. Book an initial meeting

The first step is to book a meeting with the Expert Pool’s coordinator. Together, you will review the type of support you need, the goals and the scope. One or more experts will take part in the meeting and, if needed, specialists from the IT Office as well.

The aim is to identify the right expertise and ensure that the technical prerequisites are in place to carry out the assignment.

2. Agreement on the assignment

Once the assignment’s goals, timeframe and scope have been agreed, a formal agreement will be drawn up.

The commissioning party will be charged for the allocated time specified in the agreement, in other words, a set number of hours over a given number of weeks or months.

A price list will be established shortly.

Become an expert in the Pool

Do you have specialist knowledge in any of the areas listed above? If so, you can contribute to the Expert Pool!

We are looking for KI staff with hands-on experience, and the arrangement will be tailored in dialogue between you, your manager and your Head of Department. If all parties agree on the scope and timeframe, your participation will be documented in a formal agreement.

Becoming a part of the Expert Pool offers the chance to:

  • develop your skills through new types of assignments
  • help strengthen KI’s research infrastructure
  • work in cross-functional collaborations
